Safe Home Practice

About

We think this site houses some pretty amazing content, and to help you get the most out of it, we want to make sure you can use dance and exercise videos (or live classes) safely from within your own home.

Check out our tips below for how to prepare your very own ‘home studio’!

  • Find a good sized space. You want to choose a space large enough to allow movement of the arms and legs in all directions, without any nearby obstacles or trip hazards. See if you can lay down on the floor and spread your arms and legs out wide without touching anything.
  • Avoid rooms with low ceilings or low hanging objects.
  • If possible, please avoid carpeted floors. If you are lucky enough to own a piece of dance flooring, that would be ideal for dance classes, otherwise wooden or laminate flooring would be best.
  • Make sure the floor and surrounding surfaces are clear or any objects.
  • Prepare a surface or stable structure that can be used as a barre. A chair back usually works just fine.
  • Check the room temperature. The room should be a comfortable temperature, and free of any drafts (to avoid pulled muscles!).
  • Parental supervision. Whilst our home classes are planned to be low risk, we ask parents to supervise children during lesson time so that they are immediately able to assist in the case of any incidents.
  • Warm up. Your online class or video may not include any special warm up time, so we recommend doing your own warm up before using videos or attending classes to make sure you can keep your body safe, and get the most out of them!
