Timetable

We now have an interactive timetable on our public site, which even includes class suggestions.

Dance Studio Etiquette

We want dancing to be fun. This is best achieved when everyone in the class is well behaved and considerate of themselves, their teacher and their class mates.

Top Tips!

  • Confidence is King. Dancing with confidence will improve your aesthetic to no end. Even if you don’t feel it naturally, fake it – it will come for real later on!
  • Don’t make the mistake of thinking the performance is harder than the rehearsal – the hard work should have been done by then. Treat every rehearsal as a performance, and every performance as a rehearsal.
  • Have fun! Remember, the more you enjoy dancing, the more your audience will enjoy watching you. Make sure you practice expressing your love for dance in the studio, so that you’re ready to show it next time you have an audience.

Beginners’ Guide to Ballet

Whether it’s your very first time in a ballet class, or you’re a seasoned pro just looking to brush up on your knowledge, we’ve compiled a guide to help you get the very most out of every class.

A Brief History of Ballet

Classical ballet has a long and rich history. Did you know that ballet stems from the court dances used to entertain the noblemen and women of the 15th century Italian Renaissance? It has developed over hundreds of years to become the beautiful art form that we know and love today.

Amazingly, ballet never stops progressing. Dancers share a culture of passing expertise and experience amongst themselves, and as the years go by, each new generation is able to add their own influence to help raise the standard. As a result, the ‘norms’ of classical ballet are forever adapting and improving!

If you’re interested to learn about where classical ballet came from and where it is going, Downland Dance recommends this fantastic short article published on the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre website, titled ‘A Brief History of Ballet’.
